Bugs,

Wow, sucks for you.

It kind of read like taunting to me, too. You probably didn't mean it that way but that's how it seemed. That's the hard thing about the interweb, without knowing you, seeing your facial expression and tone of voice sometimes things are taken the wrong way.
Just 'cause you can, doesn't mean you should

Uh, yeah. When somebody has a legitimate complaint, and your answer is "sucks to be you," it ain't gonna be pretty. That's pretty much a given. I thought Srlopez was frankly rather restrained in his response.

Actually there's three straight taunts in a row, if you include that lovely passive-aggressive "hope you have a better night" line. All because somebody made a pretty common sense request for a little courtesy.

Wow, sucks for you. Sorry. I won't tell you how Paula is doing then. Smile

Why are you still reading this thread? I could let the cat of the bag any moment.

Quote from Bugs34 on 8/17/2008 at 3:26 AM:
I did say sorry, and I'm sorry you took it all so seriously. I did not post anything more about race results so I don't know why you are so upset. Hope you have a better night.

Gotta love that last line. The non-apology apology. "I'm sorry YOU took it all so seriously." That's a favorite among politicians. The "if you were offended, I apologize" spiel. It's not that *I* did anything wrong, of course, but golly I feel bad you took it wrong. Roll eyes

And of course, that doesn't even include the fact that you intentionally bumped the thread again right after he politely asked you not to.

(incidentally, if you respond to this thread before, say, 10p pacific time, please bump another thread to keep this off the front page)

Not cool, man. Not cool.

You need a pet turtle.

I totally agree with JK (which is rare)... and I would also agree that all three instances were taunts.... not that it matters much what I think, but really.... that sucked.

Apparently I am not a very nice person because I posted in haste. srlopez, that was a bit much. You seem super sensitive to the tone in other posts, but not so much to your own. Maybe ask to change subject line next time instead of bumping thread now would be the kinder more considerate approach.

Never thought of different time zones, but I don’t think it’s a mistake I should have to loose sleep over.

Fair feedback. On p2 of this thread... as things were unfolding... I admitted that I could perhaps process your responses as something other than taunts. Then on p3 I accepted (and kind of agreed with) the feedback that I was being whiny.

I'd say that I was trying to self-edit and at least be cognizant of how I was appearing.

Yes, I said you weren't a very nice person. That's rough, but it is how I felt at the time. I do not think you were being very nice. Yes, I bumped the thread when I responded... and within 5 seconds, I bumped another one to cover it. I apologize for the singularly harsh comment of saying "you aren't a very nice person".

No, I don't think you should lose sleep over it either. I didn't.

It's a simple thing. Post whatever you want to post... I'm not trying to be anyone's censor. Discuss whatever. I'm just a visitor here. But asking for people to consider the whole "west coast sees things 3 hours later than east coast" and just not give away major plot points in a subject line is 1) reasonable and frankly 2) extremely extremely easy.

As for why I didn't simply ask you to change the subject line... I didn't know you could do that either. Had I known, I would have.

The marathon is done. There are no more spoilers for it. I'm long past being annoyed with it. I even said I was past it on p2.

It's okay to disagree. You don't have to resort to personal attacks. It's polite not to spoil things for others.

Ha. Just seen this. I did not spoil anything.

Purdey, thanks for calling me naive.

Did you actually read what I wrote in here????

I could give two shits if people discuss results. That's fine. I'd stay out of threads.

I was upset because a major plot point was in the freakin' subject line AND it showed up on the message board home page. I wasn't offered the chance to steer clear.

I was also upset that it seemed as though bugs was taunting me. And for this one, I totally accept the feedback from obsessor and others that I was whining. I was. But still... come on... the subject line...

Yes. I did read what you wrote... and agree that having the result in the subject line is not very thoughtful.

Still think that you were naive to come onto a running chat forum whilst trying not to find out the result of an Olympic running event.

(and for the record I do feel sorry for you - just think it was naive - nothing personal)

Summary of the marathon by Magdalena Lewy Boulet.
To say that I'm disappointed doesn't begin to describe how I feel. There's nothing worse than being in great racing shape and having the opportunity taken away because of one tiny little accident. It's a very helpless feeling. There is very little that anyone can say or do at this point to make this feeling go away and I don't know what else I can do now but cry a bit, then move on to the next challenge.

The marathon is a humbling race and it has humbled me during the most important time of my running career.
