Today was my first run back after a severe Gastroenteritis bout' that laid me out for a week. Dead Dead

Slow and easy was my goal and if I had to stop and break then fine.. I left and took it nice and easy and I felt really good, only stopped once to adjust my compression shorts underneath my skirt Roll eyes. I was gonna run a little further but decided against it because I did not want to push it my first day back.

Got home sat down and looked at my watch and plugged in my numbers.. My pace was a 9:43?!! I am just scratching my head on this one.. As you notice by my log this is not by any means a pace I have done like..um..ever.?? My watch is fine, there is no way I could have hit any buttons by accident and I looked at my clock home here to see when I left and it seems right.

How do I log this run? I put cruise but clearly it did not feel like a cruise effort..it felt like an easy run. Just a fluke? Brush it off and move on? Tongue

I've had the same thing happen after being sick for awhile. My hypothesis is that I came back with super-fresh legs. Looking at your log, that pace isn't totally out of line with what you've been doing. If it was me, I'd log it based on how it felt - easy or whatever.

I changed it to easy..that is what it felt like to me. My Dh says to me "Why can't you just accept that you did well?" Tongue

Perhaps my legs really appreciated the break. I had been really pushing the envelope lately. I was supposed to start Half Mary training this past Monday, but I'll push it back to next week- Nothing like a little shot to my ego. Big grin

I had to take a week off back in high school because of back problems. I came back and ran a PR in the two mile and I believe that was the first time that I broke 5 mins in the mile. My legs were happy to have a rest to heal and I kept improving after that as well. So I think sometimes we just need to stop and give our body a break as hard as that can be.

I think you did right in just putting it as an easy because...well..it was obviously fairly effortless to run that pace for you. So good job. Smile

I can't wait to hear how your next run goes. Make sure you update us on whether or not the new pace is now your "easy" pace.

Great job.

Your log show lots of 3-4 days in a row of running. While very good for lots of reasons, it WILL result in slower paces due to fatigue.

By getting sick, you gave yourself an unintentional taper. Smile

well, thanks for your opinions. It seems as if I have really needed that unintentional time off.. My body feels good all the way around and I feel stronger..My legs feel fresh and I am now ready to start my training plan for my Half Marathon on Monday.

fyi- I went from last August to the present without any real time off..I believe the most I had taken off was something like 3 days in a row due to injury. Otherwise-nothing..looking back, I was definately fatigued, tired and probably a tad burned out..Never lost my passion, just stressed my body out. Wink
