This is not a political statement - I just find this interesting, especially page 2 with the last survivor information...

Check out the date for the Civil War - Last Union Widow Shocked

Pretty cool, actually.

I couldn't figure out the Civil War widow ... then I realized it must have been some guy who lived to a ripe old age and married himself a young honey.

Check out the Civil War dependents. 3 people still eligible for benefits whose father fought in the Civil War? Amazing.

And go hug a WWII vet. They won't be around forever.

I always thought there were more battle deaths in the Civil War than that. Hmmm.

I read recently that there is only one USA WWI veteran still living. Can you imagine being that guy?

Yeah, one would think... when you read about the carnage and the sheer numbers of participants in the battles. There were huge numbers who died... one of the main issues was that disease was just as, if not more, responsible for deaths than wounds in that war.

Either a feeling of accomplishment, or loneliness... if he still has his wits about him at all.

The last French WW1 veteran just died recently, too.

Still, the largest number of battle deaths in a single day in US history is Antietam (or Sharpsburg, if you're from the South), September 17, 1862, 2100 Union and 1550 CSA killed.
The number killed in the US Civil War (or War Between the States, or War of the Northern Aggression, or The Unpleasantness) still exceeds those of all other US wars combined, from the American Revolution to Vietnam.
