Hey Anya_ (Read 747 times)

    Hawaii Five-O?

    I hate that show.

I remember watching that show one day when I was a little kid. We'd just come back from vacation and there was a note taped to the garage door. Sir, our black lab had died while we were gone. When I was done crying my parents turned on the TV and plunked me down in front of it while they unpacked. Every time I see that stupid big wave as the opening credits begin I think of my dog.

    Sorry to spoil the mood.

Magnum PI was better. How can you go wrong with girls in bikinis and a Ferrari?

Sorry about your doggie.  It's funny how that works.  I associate the opening scene with sitting in my Grandpa's lap, and sneaking sips of his Scotch.   Yes, I've been drinking Scotch since I was 3.

Great theme song. Played it in pep band a whole lot. Played the recording at home a lot, too.

      Tiggers don't like haycorns.

So I saw that the remake was on the TV last night.  Any reactions?

        No offense.

          Yes.

CSI: Hawai'i.  Sigh.  One interesting thing is that they made Steve McGarrett's origin/backstory basically... Thomas Magnum.  Really.  (ok, but it is a party trick.  It's really the same origin as the Jack Lord version. They gave Magnum a similar origin... commander, navy seal, naval intelligence... on purpose)

But, really... it's just another NCIS or CSI.  Don't believe me?  Just watch the opening.

          Original opening credits.

          New version opening credits.

It is ok, I guess, but the old opening is sooo much better.  The old one was pretty famous as being one of the first examples of "the quick cut"... but even so, it lingers on good stuff (like the opening wave).  The new one?  cut cut cut. And it clocks in at half the time.  Just compare the swoop into the Ilikai building (after which McGarrett turns around and looks at you). Blink and you will miss it in the new one.

BTW, here is an alternate version of the opening credits.  Fewer quick cuts.  I think it is from the pilot episode, but I'm not for sure.

          Ultima tastes like failure.

          Resting? get a hug!!!

YEAP!!!  it was the "waves" in the original open scene that made me dream of seeing the ocean waves in real life...way back when I was a child in a land-locked country.

Fun to go back to  old  memories.

            Thanks for the links.

"Dream big...then run hard toward those dreams!!!

I have not seen it yet.

Too bad I can't access the links, the company I work for blocks almost everything good.

Wow, I could have sworn there was a surfer riding the tube in the original sequence and maybe later people in an outrigger.  So much for using me as an eyewitness to anything.  What show am I think of?  If you say Magnum P.I. I may cut myself.

There was never a surfer in the tube for H50.... however, yes, the dudes in the outrigger.  That would be in the closing credits.

                  Here we go.

Okay found the outrigger in the closing credits, thanks internet.  But what show has the surfer?

                      Ummm.... 90210 kinda did.

Miami Vice had a chick windsurfing.

Aside from that, yo no say.

Magnum was into sit-down paddleboarding.  Which has been wholly recreated recently by Laird Hamilton as stand-up paddleboarding.

Never saw it.  I have googled every way to say it and I can't find it.  Darn middle-aged memory.
