Two weeks ago after my long run I experienced a lot of muscle twitches, mostly in my right leg, mostly in the hamstring area, but also in my quads. Not just a few here or there, but many in a row and kind of frequently.
It stopped after a couple of days but then after my long run this past Saturday they came back again, just not as bad.
I'm not worried. I'm just curious. Has anyone else had this? Does anyone know why? |

| I actually get this a bit. I've never really noticed a pattern of it, and it can happen in more than one place in my body-hams, quads, arms...I'd also be interested to see if anyone knows what causes this. |

Well, I did some looking on the Internet (no, not Trent's portion). I found this blurb that relates to the twitching.
#2 DON’T NEGLECT ELECTROLYTES IN EXERCISE LASTING >1 HOUR. In addition to fluid replacement, replacement of electrolytes becomes instrumental in endurance bouts lasting longer than 1 hour, especially when completed in hot and humid conditions. The principle electrolytes include sodium (generally bound to chloride), potassium, magnesium, and calcium. These electrolytes are involved in metabolic activities and are essential to the normal function of all cells, including muscle function. An electrolyte imbalance has reported symptoms similar to dehydration: nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness, muscle cramping, muscle twitching, overall fatigue, labored breathing, “pins and needles”, and confusion.
So, maybe I'm not drinking enough water and not replacing my electrolytes.

| I guess this explains why I was sitting at my desk at work, and my Quadricep muscle started twitching. |

| Sounds like benign fasciculations. Typically the trigger is over exertion. |

| I started taking calcium carbonate versus calcium citrate and its helped out. I think the citrate forms are weaker and so I started taking the carbonate version because you need to drive calcium home into your muscles. |

Were they fast twitches or slow twitches?

And what Runner92 said. |
