Is 15 years, 11 months the same as 16 years old?

No. OMG, that is awful for that girl. So why have laws if our legal system isn't going to enforce them--especially where abuse of a minor occurs? Sad

Looks like the justice system is suffering from the same staffing and funding cutbacks that most industries are. I just hope nobody is surprised when more and more people go vigilante and take things into their own hands.

As for 15 years 11 months being the same as 16? WTF? I know standards are down everywhere, but I used to think a law was a law and would be enforced.

Well, according to the article, she'd been having consensual sex with that 23 year old for a number of months. Where were her parents?! Did they not have a problem with their 15 year old seeing a 23 year old?

As for 15 years 11 months =/= 16 years, of course that's true, but you must admit that it is pretty close. And since this had been going on for a while without parental objection, I'm guessing the prosecutor was viewing this like doing 26mph in a 25. Course that's a guess, I'm no attorney.

For the record, I'm not trying to defend the 23 year old guy nailing a 15 year old. Jesus, what's wrong with people anymore. Makes me glad I don't have kids.

The reason for the law is to draw a line in the sand. The moment you say that 15 and 11 is close to 16, what is to keep you from saying 15 and 10 is close. It is a slippery slope, and you have to draw the line somewhere. Once the line is drawn, you need to enforce it.

According to the law, a kid under 16 cannot "consent" to having sex with an adult, so it is not consensual.

Where are the parents? Good question. But sometimes these things happen, and we should be able to depend on our laws to protect us as well.

And somebody needs to shoot Jamie Lynn Spears. But then again, I do have kids.
