Thought that was John Wesley Hardin?

            It. was. a. joke.

A little surrealism involving an ancient pop culture reference and the theme of this thread.

            Coolidge wept.

(Hmmm. I could have gone with a Harding for Hardin substitution.  Except that Andrew Jackson WAS considered to be kind of mean by some, whereas Harding was a dumbass.  AND definitely on the list of worst presidents.)

But before I begin I am using my cell phone, so the format might have not turned out well, but I had to, to get my point across.

Here's an interesting thing that most people don't know unless they read the book...

You know those soldier dudes in Wizard of Oz who chant "Oh-wee-oh, Ohhhhh-oh"?

                    Those are, officially, Winkies.

And a lot more fun than the smiley kind.

Let's bring this back to politics... (no winkie smiley face here...)

Another interesting thing regarding The Wizard of Oz is that there are a lot of references to the political spectrum of the late 1890s.

                          Oz = ounce of gold

Yellow brick road relates to the path of the American people while on the gold standard

4 corners of Oz represent the regions within the US

Tin Man relates to the industrial workers

Straw Man relates to the farmers

Lion represents the cowardly people of the time

Munchkins were the little people (voters)

The Wizard represents the president of the US.

All people saw the wizard differently (TinMan, StrawMan, Lion, Dorothy, ...).

To bring it back to Running, the flying monkeys (not the marathon, but the monkeys in the book) are Native Americans who did what they wanted after being moved from their lands.

                          Great book / Great story.
