I look my best blurry!
ran 12 miles for the week. knee pain.marathon on 3/21. will probably do the 1/2.hopefully.
March 19th is the day I get to start doing low impact workouts. I wish I could run a half on the 21st! Nope! Good luck with your knee(s). Take it easy. Easier said than done, huh?
MCL strain?
I haven't been diagnosed yet, but from searching it looks to be a class one MCL strain. I have a family friend that is a physical therapist and will see her this weekend for a confirmation. I have been running on a 0.09 mile indoor track for about 4-5 weeks now and I think all the 90 degree turns took its toll on my knee. Pain started slowly but came to a head on Monday when I could barely stand to get out of bed on Tuesday.
I have been RICEing for the past couple days and will most likely continue for at least a week, maybe two or three more. I plan on some easy stationary bike cross training and a lunchtime swim until I start running again.
I have my first ever 1/2 marathon (Earth day 1/2 Marathon)on April 17th and don't want to miss it.
2012 Goals:
5k = sub 22:00
10k = sub 45:00
HM = sub 1:40:00
Run = 2000 miles
Bike = 3000 miles
Swim = 130 miles
I don't half-ass anything

14.6 @ Stn Mtn. No knee pain. I am officially off the list. For today at least.
Rest and get well soon.
Have you thought about run/walking your half in May? That would at least minimize some of the impact to your hip.
I have thought of everything I could possibly do to get across the finish line. I am not thinking it is a good idea, today. Maybe I'll just host the post race party.

G-R-E-A-T!
I keep thinking about rest but I don't like that idea much. May have to. I've accepted that o can't run but not workout just sounds awful. Still having hip pain with all my aquarunning. I can only hope that the bone is healing but the soft tissue issues (sounds funny,huh!) are still causing me some discomfort. Phooey, again. I am trying too hard to maintain my fitness level. I really thought I would be able to get back out on the road in great shape if I ran in the pool enough. Today I am doubting my theory.
Kristen,
Just curious, is your doc ok with you jogging in water if there is pain involved? I am sure you have had this conversation with him. Whenever there is pain it means the bone, soft tissue etc is not healed. My rehab background tells me, if there has not been any improvement in this discomfort the last few weeks, it may mean no/minimal healing and you are doing too much. I think this needs rest! Just my opinion which I think you are tired of
Do you have another scan planned in a few weeks?
Could somone else let me know that they are as stupid as me. I feel so alone. No comments on the public forum from Nobby or Tchuck allowed.
Maybe I should start running on my hands. My arms are starting to look pretty fit from the UE bike.
Went to see a friend's band Saturday night in Akron Ohio , The Average Joe Band. BTW they were better than average. So much fun! I had an awesome time and too many gin and tonics. Forgot that dancing was probably on my list of things I'm not allowed to do. Didn't notice any hip pain Saturday night. Now??? Ugh. Could somone else let me know that they are as stupid as me. Hey! That counts! I don't think I am any worse off from the dancing. Honestly.
wannabe - just because someone suggests advice that you may not like, dosen't mean that they are trying to intentionally bring you down. You should listen to Tchuck and Nobby - they have a ton of experience between them. Personally - (although I have no experience) - I would tend to err on the side of caution, especially in the case of a stress fracture. You can't ever be too careful with that. 6 weeks of no running is nothing compared to what could happen. If you are aquajogging with pain - then you are not healing well, and might want to scale it back a bit. Pain is what our body uses to tell us something is broken.
this forum is meant to be a helpful place, and the right advice is not always the advice that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. You don't have to take the advice, but I'd at least listen to it.
i am stupid too. in '04 got all all drunk at a wedding, took my shoes off so i could really let loose and blew out my left knee. that season was ruined. to this day it still ain't right. booze is the enemy, for me anyway, but damn it's fun.
