We have several trees in our yard that we fear may need to be removed. One is an already dead birch (not particularly big around, but a pretty tall tree of 50-60 feet) and then we have 2-3 big maples that have been dropping LARGE branches with increasing frequency (one just dropped this AM near our front door). One of the trees has a significant area that has rotted away, though the rest of the tree appears to be pretty healthy.
While we would miss the shade and beauty these trees provide, the risk of a hole in our roof if a large branch should fall in that direction makes us a little nervous. Plus we are very limited in what plants and shrubs we can plant around most of our house, since they provide pretty deep shade. So not having at least a couple of these trees wouldn't be all bad--I'd love to be able to plant things that need more sunlight AND have the things we do have growing around the house (azaleas, hydrangeas, hostas, etc.) grow a bit faster and larger.
You can see the location of the trees a bit in this photo:
One of the trees is on the right side of the shot and there are 2 on the left (can only really see the one, then there is another sort of next to it, parallel to the house).
Anywho, I guess what I'm wondering is who we would contact to assess the overall health of these trees. I'm not sure if that would be the same people who would remove them (if necessary), or not.
