Running Hoodies (Read 1263 times)

Jane

I'm glad this was linked to in the hey RW people thread, I may have to look into some myself.  (I'm moving from the south to Michigan in January.)  I've never been a big fan of hoods but I've never been a winter runner either so I may have to give them a try the Sugoi one looks like something I could stand.

Never run, if you want to never run, don't start because you'll never stop.

I have this Nike one: http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/?l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-100701/pid-581957/pgid-699717

I like it a lot. The hood stays on my head pretty well and the sleeves have those little holes for your thumbs AND flaps that fold down over your hands (like mittens). There's a zip pocket in the back, too.

Hmmm...I think I could probably dig that, especially since it has mittens and thumb holes. It's cheap too!

I never use any of my hoods, yet all my running jackets have them. Weird. I don't like wearing hoods in general anyways, they restrict head movement and vision. But since all my jackets have hoods, they don't seem to bother me if they do jiggle. But tags...don't get me started on neck tags!

I have purchased a hoodie.  I choose a really light weight one since it doesn't get that cold here.  I have some recovery runs coming up so I can test it out.  I'll report back...

That looks pretty nice.  (And, it's on sale).  Might have to purchase...

The one you purchased is sultry though. That has to make you a better runner, right?? Wink

Until I trip because I've loss my peripheral visiion!  Smile  But yeah, I'm a bit of a running clothes fashionista and a gear head.  Most of the threads I start are in the Gears and Wears forum.  I don't know how it happened because I'm not that way with regular clothes and gadgets.  But, the trappings do keep me motivated and that makes me a better runner, I suppose.

I just noticed that it's on sale - that's a really good price. I highly recommend it.

I prefer to use a hat when it's warm and a balaclava when it's really cold. Sometimes I even layer up a neck gaiter. Chicago, you know... and me being cold blooded...

                      an amazing likeness

I thought this was going to be about degenerates training for races....

Acceptable at a dance, invaluable in a shipwreck.

I thought that should be an "Off the beaten path" topic.

I have this one, or at least a similar model that is a couple years old: http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/?l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-681323/pgid-508651

And I think I used the hood once or twice.. can't stand the loss of peripheral vision.  The bouncing of the hood doesn't bother me, but I bought a new windbreaker type jacket this fall (Brooks Essential Run jacket) and made sure to get one without a hood because I knew I wouldn't use it and it was cheaper than a similar model with a hood.

So, I ran in my hoodie today.  The good news is that when I took the hood off, the bouncing didn't bother me.  It's so light weight I didn't even feel it.  The bad news is that I think for it to really work, I would need to find one more fitted than what I bought.  The hoodie I chose doesn't have any elastic to hold it against my pea-sized head so it fit more like the hood of a cloak.  Instead of holding heat in, it created some kind of wind tunnel/vortex whereby the wind kept circulating around my head.  I could see it being a good thing, though, if I could find one for people with disproportionate heads and that had some spandex in it.
