De-slacking in progress
Ok, I understand that they want my name, gender.......
but under #6 it asks "What is this person's race?"
Should I put
5K
10K
HM
?????
I'd put down marathon, but I've never ran one before and I don't want to lie on my census form and screw up the gov't statistics.
finished with 2.5 year couch sitting marathon. Wife and I just signed up for Canton, Ohio Half Marathon. Gotta go from ZERO mpw back to 30-40 mpw, starting on Nov 14, 2011

You'll ruin your knees!
What does Tunis make?
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
When lacking good info, 'tis often best to answer a question with a question. So go with "certified course? Chip timed? Hilly or flat?".
The King of Beasts
Flying Monkey.
Should I put 5K 10K HM ?????
Just to clarify, put down "5K marathon and 10K marathon".

Talk about a waste of god knows how many billions of $$ for the census.
Come on for 50 - 100k could give you a pretty robust web app, database and reporting of data captured online, yes would have to mail for those not in the computer age but would imagine 75% of americans have access to computer one way or another.
They even ran Fing Super Bowl adds , then mailed me something last week telling me the census was coming this week.... jeez just a couple hundrid mill in postage alone ... well someone has to keep USPS in business. Then they will hire 1000's of people to enter the data (well have not seen form ... maybe it could be scanned?? that would make too much sense though)
What up America it is 2010 not 1950!!! Get with the Times.
I fly.
Bring it on.

my thoughts exactly!
A bargin at $15 BILLION budgeted for 2010 census ... Our hard earned Tax $$ at work. Sadly $15 BILLION was lower than I would have thought.
http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/politics/2010/2/4/census_budget_bigger_than_ever_but.htm
So that is is approx $50 per person of the US est 300 million population just to ask 10 questions. And really only 1 census per family/ mailing address and lets say avg household of 4 ... Now we are talking budgeted $200 per houshold to ask and collect data on 10 questions .... hmmmm.
Not sure why we are in Debt???
tipsy chicks
But how would they know who does and does not have a computer and who to mail the paper forms to? Just having access to one doesn't mean a person is comfortable using it. It drives me bonkers that my 65 year old mother is a complete luddite and refuses to do anything with computers...she has access, she chooses to be fearful (if they had a computer I know my dad would use it, he just doesn't care either way and without mom having any interest there is no impetus for him to move into the digital age). Even for those of us who are tech-savvy, what if the site didn't work with our OS or browser or we ran into some tech glitches? I can see where it could be a bit of a nightmare on the Govt's end to work through that.
I'm guessing in 10 years it will be more online-based. By then I imagine the # of people not online will almost certainly be VERY small and that gives the Govt. that much more time to perfect an online application.

Hey, filling out the mail-in form is lightyears better than the good ol' roaming census taker who knocks on your door.
There were signs all over downtown Seattle for awhile... NOW HIRING census folks. Seems like a pretty hazardous job, actually. Some folks don't like random people knocking on their doors, and they damn sure don't like nosey questions.
As for race, I'm an "other" both in actual terms and for the purposes of the good joke that started this thread.
Ultima tastes like failure.
I gave a bit of thought to applying for one of those jobs...then I realized that there are a few Michigan Militia types not all that far away. Not too keen on the thought of facing the business end of a shotgun.
Why not just a web app, and pay everyone $25 to register. If you're not smart enough to answer a couple of questions online, for money, you don't count.
It's ok, I'll be happy to register several times (at $25 a pop) to make up for those dummies. Just out of my highly developed sense of civic duty.
