Ha, that bit about guys all having to pee at mile 5 was hilarious. Mile 2 is about where all the guys seem to have to go during the Riverbank Run 25k. I've seen it 2 years, now.
Speaking of...I found a little thing in the PDF "manual" for the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon that says P=DQ. Apparently one can be DQd for peeing on or near the course and not in a port-a-john. That kind of surprised me. I wonder if they really enforce that. Apparently they have a lot of portable toilets...at least I hope that's the case. |

That was the new rule that was sent out to all of the Grandma's Marathon runners. They said that you may be disqualified if you are caught using private property instead of the toilets. I still saw a bunch of people using the woods instead. It amazed me becuase some of them stopped before we got to mile 1 and a bunch more before mile 2. Must be weak bladders or something. |

I think part of it is long bathroom/port-a-jon lines right before race starts. I make sure I go at least a half hour before race start, but sometimes I start still feeling like I have to go...mostly it's nerves, though. Eryn/backroadrunner has run entire HMs and longer having to go. Not sure how she does that. If I have to go I can't hold it. |

I've run two HM's without having to use the facilities...Last year, I swore I was going to wet my pants right before the start, but then didn't want to stop to use the port-o-john during the race (like that 2 minute stop was going to prevent me from winning or something...). Kept convincing myself to make it to the next facility.... Anyway...After the race, I didn't have to go anymore...Have no idea what that was about.

I've yet to go after the start of a race...3 HMs and 2 25ks, too. I'm sure my "record" won't hold once I do anything longer.
I usually feel like I have to pee while waiting for the race start, but usually by the time I cross the start mat I don't feel any need. In HS track I usually felt like I had to pee REALLY bad while getting in the starting blocks, but I don't recall ever having to go once I was done with my events. |

Sheesh. Next they'll be shusshing the spectators like in golf. Time to find a nice trail race.

| I had to pee at mile one of this year's Grandma's but told myself I wouldn't go unless I just couldn't take it any more. Turns out, I didn't go until I got back to the dorms at UMD after the race. Didn't realize that you could get DQd by peeing in the bushes though. Speaking of DQs, I did see a lot of people wearing headphones during the race... I wonder if race officials were watching? |
