The subject of East Africans and PEDs (Read 62 times)

The question of why East African are so dominant in distance running, and persistent allegations that their coaches use things like EPO, blood doping, HGH, testosterone and anabolic steroids in their training, leads me to wonder two things: First, how many elite runners are using that stuff, and second, what can be done about it? Clearly, urine tests are useless - cyclists who have admitted PED use passes test after test.

If I was going to grab a number out of the air, I would imagine about 30% of elite runners utilize some form of PEDs. Look at the total domination of East Africans who train together, share coaches and doctors, and work under a near-dictatorship in their camps. Does anyone seriously doubt there are some illicit substances being used? So what to do about it? The only solution is to get blood samples and hair samples instead of simple urine. Or the other solution is for the masses to go out and race and don't give the first thought to who won.
