If they list out the top 5 runners and then only give one time - 4:37, wouldn't that be the winning time, not the 3rd place runners time?
Hard to find the exact time or race when he ran the purported 4:37 (and if the winner went 4:37.0, there's nothing to stop 2nd and 3rd from being in the 4:37s as well--it's called a close finish), nevertheless there is plenty of evidence that he was one of the better high school runners in NYC during the late 1950s.
I think Congress should convene a special select committee to investigate Senator Sanders' race results.

Unfortunately for Bernie, time was added to his mile due to the speed disparity in the country at this time.
Now his official time is 5:03... just like everyone else that ran high school track that year.
