N.J. Marathon 2010 (Read 1066 times)

I know it's crazy early to discuss this, but the registration fee starts going up after tomorrow.

Who is thinking of doing this one?

I personally want to get an early start on harassing Potato Head to sign up so I can be there when he BQ's.

Good luck with that.  I run the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon every year and that is the week before.  So no NJ Marathon for me.

I said I should, not would.  I like Lehigh Valley too much, I guess.

I would think that we could meet at one or more of these races though.  Mostly fast and flat courses, too.

Sounds like fun.  Lemme know which one(s) you decide to race.

Definitely Spring Lake and probably Belmar.  If you want to enter Spring Lake you need to do it as soon as registration opens.  It fills up fast.  It opens early February I believe.

Is that pic Photoshopped or do that many people actually enter Spring Lake?

                I fly.

Come run something in South Jersey and I'll run it too!  (And I mean real south Jersey - Cape May or Atlantic County.)

                  Bring it on.

The picture is legit.  It's advertised as one of the largest 5 milers in the country and has about 9000 runners.  It's a big day down there, Memorial Day Saturday which is sort of opening day for the shore towns.  I swear many people there are still half in the wrapper from the night before.

For a race that large they do a pretty good job.  My only gripe is that I wish they would corral the runners based on anticipated finish time.  It's hard to get in a rythm the first mile because I always seem to be dodging a bunch of slower runners who start up too far.  But I always have a good time there, and have run it almost every year since the early 90's.

You're closer to Spring Lake than I am I bet.

Currently I am planning on running the NJ Marathon next year.  I didnt know about the price increase, I'll have to check out the website today and maybe register to save some cash.

Mileage wise, yes, but in terms of actually being able to get to the race and get home, no.  The GSP is a parking lot in the summer and I'd have to sit in terrible traffic both ways.  It's just one disadvantage to living at the shore.

Yeah, Saturdays are a mess down there in the summer.  Spring Lake is Memorial Day Weekend though, and most of the traffic is Friday and Monday since the summer rentals haven't started yet.  I've never had a problem using the GSP on that Saturday morning.

I have thought about doing the NJ marathon (i missed the 1/2 due to injury last year)  but heard it is a very boring course.  what is your experience?
