Thanks to the solid advice of my friends here at runningahead, I was able to finish my first race this past Sunday.

I'd like to run the Hartford Marathon on October 18. Is there enough time to build up a good base and then complete a training program? If so, I'd really appreciate some advice on a good approach.

Choose a training program that reaches at least 50 miles a week to safely and adequately prepare for the distance.

N/A - I hope so, since I have a simlar goal! I am aiming for NYC, but if I don't get picked I will go for Hartford, Cape Cod (10/26), or Newport (10/18-). I'm starting with less of a base than you, and am using a plan from the NYC website with modifications for some speedwork and extra miles taken from Runner's World and Running Times articles I saved last year or the year before. So, good luck to you in your training (and me in mine Big grin)!

Also - just noticed you referred to Hartford date as 10/18/08 - per the website
(http://www.hartfordmarathon.com/marathonnew.htm)
Hartford is on October 11th this year. Looks like they moved the race up a week from last year.
