My son worked on this booster. He works for AeroJet as an NDT (Non Destructive Tester) to take "films" of the booster and look for flaws...Yes, I'm a proud father...

Actually no. As an NDT, he tested for, and passed, an exam while in the US Navy to become specialized. There are various "levels" of NDT and he went for the highest grade...Radiographer. While in the Navy, he, along with his colleagues, would shoot films of submarine hulls with radioactive source material, in order to ensure there were no flaws in any of the welds. One flaw in a submarine hull could lead to a very bad day for the crew members at depth, yes?
Anyway, his job as a Radiographer is considered one of the most "technical" positions in the military that requires good math/analytical skills without a college degree. He was in school full time for something like 2 solid years before he even really began his job. He was active duty for 6 years straight.

Actually "destructive testing" does occur and there are folks who specialize in "testing" components to failure.
