Marathon after Meniscus! (Read 295 times)

    Hi--

Hoping someone can share their wisdom!

I had surgery for two medial tears in my the meniscus on my left knee. Also fluid removed that had formed into a Baker's cyst. The surgery was Nov. 10. I'm recovering nicely (still bruising and a little swelling) but can bear weight, walk, and nearly go up and down stairs without looking like a weeble.

My mileage before surgery was 45-ish miles a week.

Yesterday I was cleared to swim (did half a mile yesterday and half a mile today) and should be on the elliptical in about 2 weeks.

My question is how quickly any of you have gotten back to light running, and then to less light running...and finally..to real training.

I have a number for this year's Boston Marathon -- which would be 5 months and 10 days after my surgery. I guess I could defer for a year...but I'm really hoping to run it.

Any idea about whether that is realistic? Possible? Insane?

I'm going to be religious about my PT, my icing, my stretching. I'll behave. I'll eat my veggies....

    Thanks!!!!

    Karyn
