Forums >Running 101>I'm tanking at the end of my long run. Help!!
Is your log an accurate representation of your mileage? Assuming that it is, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you don't posses enough of a base to support your long runs. In fact, according to your log, it seems around 80% of your weekly mileage is covered in your long run. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that if you want to go 26.2 miles two months from now without tanking, you need to significantly increase your weekly mileage. If I were you, I'd seriously consider downgrading to the half. My $0.02.
I would have agreed with Ben_1415 and suggested that you downgrade to the half ... Just because you were able to run the marathon without serious consequence doesn't mean that you should have nor does it give you the right to thumb your nose at those who had suggested otherwise. Tom

Indeed. Exactly. First, Ben_1415 was right. I don't think there's even an argument to be had. The fact that you managed to get to the finish line doesn't make him less right. I've run completely untrained marathons, too; that didn't make anybody suggesting not doing it wrong. Just made me stupid and lucky. Second, and far more important, is the fact that every person in this thread took their valuable time to give you advice. None of it was "unsolicited" - you started the thread. And in this community, we share our advice and opinions about each other's training. The fact that you didn't like his opinion (or apparently even notice that others echoed his opinion) doesn't make it any less valuable. In fact, it makes it more valuable. If you already know everything, why are you asking questions? Nobody put anybody down. You were given good advice, friendly and helpful advice, from well meaning strangers who probably now regret wasting their time. Some of it came from very talented, experienced runners - like Jeff and Spaniel and Jim and Scout. People who could charge money for those opinions. And then you copped an attitude about it. Then came back (as Tom put it) "thumb your nose" at people just trying to help. Nice.
Indeed. Exactly. First, Ben_1415 was right .... Nice.
