Budman do you also run barefoot at all? If so how do they compare? There are times I need a minimalistic shoe. I have some water shoes I use to walk in. However I don't like them for running because they move around on my feet and I don't get good ground feel.
I run some runs barefoot, in FF, in Feelmax, and in XC flats (Kilkennys). The Vibrams aren't all that different from the Kilkennys. The Feelmax shoes are very very close to BF.
New chapter forthcoming
Time for the relaunch. Stay tuned....
Bwwwwahahahaha it's cute to look at the logs of the folks that run in these gimmicky things. Thanks for spreading a little sunshine to my day.
Um, many of the people seem to have logs just like you, so I guess I don't get the point of your post. Maybe you just decided to be insulting? Thanks for spreading gloom to other people's day.
Chris
I don't run barefoot at all so I would not know the answer to that question. My VFF do not move around at all when running, so they could be a good option for you try. If so just go slow because your calfs will hurt until you get use to them.

VFF are no more gimmicky then Spira shoes with wave springs. Its what works me and a growing number of people.
if you can find time away from being an ignorant asshole you should take a look at my log andrew. ill run circles around you barefoot any day of the week then ill show you a more practical use for that hundred dollar wavespring bullshit. it claims to return energy back into the legs to make you faster but how come youre still eating my dust?
Intentionally Blank
Do not attempt.
Serious question: why VFF? $85 to be minimalist sounds ironic to me. Why not run in keds or something cheap? I buy that minimalist can help people who have injuries. I question the superiority of VFF.
I guess you'd need to try them out yourself to get the answer. Some runners have over 1000 miles in them, I doubt that Keds would last that long, for one thing.
I have to agree that someone who runs in Spiras calling VFF's "gimmicky" is pretty ironic.

i think most people are attracted to them because they look cool and unique. the other minimalist shoes ive seen just look like shoes and i would guess arent as modestly priced. i doubt that there is any real difference in the performance though. there are a handful of companies now that are embracing this technology a quick google search should yield some less expensive alternatives.
I have only just started a little training in my VFF's and have only done one 5k in them, primarily I was running in grass and smooth trails. I don't think I could do anything much more that smooth surfaces or grass.
I was definitely sore in my lower legs, calves, and achilles tendons; right now I'm only using them every once in awhile to see if it's something to improve my runs. I have to admit that I get a lot of funny looks and questions about them.
I am trying them on the suggestion of a friend of mine. He's done Ironman, marathons and ultra's in them (I call him and elite athlete and he's a Doctor) and he has put well over 1200 miles on them before even thinking about replacing them. Of course he also run barefoot alot too.
Bwwwaaaaahahahahaha!!! Good stuff Roy. I'd look at your log...but I don't really see one it looks rather empty. Anywho...I did find this gem:
"unshod for a couple miles in the beginning, developed blisters, had to stop due to left knee pain in the joint i think. towards the end the pain moved into left hip."
Sounds like that's going grate. Keep it up. Oh and the Spira's...I'm not afraid to try something new. I didn't get them because of the springs...I got them because they are light, and soft. They feel great in my marathons. I'd like something a little 'less' for shorter races...but I don't feel like shelling out the money for some Nike Lunar racers yet. Got them Spira's for free at an expo. Can't beat free. Plus, I've never gotten a blister in them during a marathon...so there's one for the Spira's. What are your race times by the way...since you can run circles around me? I'm curious. When was the last time you raced a marathon, and what was your time? Oh and for the record...you brought up pace, not me. I don't care how fast or slow someone runs....just that they run.
Hey Roy...it's me again. Found your race results. I'm not exactly sure how you can run circles around me (lots of people can) with a 1:38 half marathon PR. I don't mean to boast...cause there are LOTS of people here much faster than me....but since you brought it up, I can run a half marathon in 1:20:09. So.....let me know when you want to run those circles. Barefoot. With your bum knee and blisters. Yeah....good luck with that and all.
I can run a half marathon in 1:20:09.
Yeah, but that's in boingy shoes. I'll bet I could beat you on rollerblades!
Well I damn sure can't run it that fast barefooted. But I guess that's sort of the point, huh.....
MTA: Hey, good luck at the Blue Ridge Parkway Marathon. I'll be movin' out that way soon. I'd love to hear about how that race is when you're done.
