I average ~8hours per night. I think this is optimum for me because significantly less than 8 I feel sluggish the next day and significantly more than 8 I also don't feel 'right' then next day.

I feel best on about 10 hours of sleep. And no, I don't have kids.
The biggest thing, though, seems to be waking up without an alarm. Even if I get plenty of sleep, alarms seem to mess me up energy-wise.

fwiw, I heard that a good rule of thumb is that for every mile per week you run, you need that many extra minutes of sleep per night. ... for example if 7 hours is generally good for you and you are running 45 MPW, try to sleep 7 hours and 45 minutes. Charlie
