Rhode Island Marathon (Read 501 times)

I fly.

Anyone have any thoughts on this one?  I'm thinking of running it, but I'd like to hear what people have to say (I read the reviews on Marathonguide, so I have some ideas).

    Bring it on.

I've run it the past 2 years and will probably again this year.  Nicely run (although last year there was a problem with promised Gu stations that did not exist) and no major hills.  The only part I hate is the end when you cross a very narrow bridge with down corkscrew ramp -- not so much fun when your legs are getting tired.  And there isn't a lot of crowd support if that's what you need.  I love the second half when you run on bike/running paths so there's no cars to deal with.

I would love to meet you if you decide to run it!

I ran the  COX Providence last year, it was my first marathon.   I didn't bring any gels with me, expecting to have them at the aid stations, I guess the fast people got to them first because there was not gels at all.    Overall I enjoyed it,  very flat!    Yes the corkscrew bridge and stairwell was interesting, especially since it's on the last mile.

I've never run Providence but a number of people from my running club have and they have all said good things about it....

I won the race the first year when the course went up to Pawtuckett and back, and then ran it again the second year when it stayed in Providence and went over a bridge with construction.  I vastly preferred the first year's course although I can see why they changed it in terms of logistics (although I admit I didn't mind not having to hurdle a drunk passed out in the road the 2nd year...)

Here are my two race recaps which can give you an idea about how things went the first two years:

                  Of course you did.

                  You won.
