I am familiar with the Am. Lung Assn's "Give A Car.org" program in the upper Midwest, but they don't pick up in MI, unfortunately. We have a '97 Escort that has been languishing in our driveway for a year. did insists we should sell it...he listed it on his company intranet, but forgot to mention that it's a manual and everyone who expressed interest wanted auto. I'd be happy to donate it and take the tax deduction.
Anyone know of any good charities that come take cars? |

I recently donated my car to the alzheimers association. They tow. I believe that the salvation army will also tow. |

Ha, you really want a purple Ford Escort with a bazillion miles and little trees sprouting on it...DS said it was a "green" car the other day. Goofy kid.
Blaine, I will look into those. Good charities, both. |

Zoom,
You may want to talk to your tax man. The tax write off on your car is probably less than $500 depending on your income level. I would advise selling the car private party, get more for the car than the write off amount and if you want, make a donation to charity.
I have wanted to do this before and my tax man has strong advised against it.
Good luck

Heh, Blue Book on the car is only about $4-500, anyhow. No one really wants to spend much on a '97 Escort with ~2k miles on it. |

No, not if it's purple. but I could use an old car for short freq. trips here and there. |

When I got rid of my truck, it was more convenient to donate it. It was worth less than $1000 so I doubt that I would have got more than $500-$600 in a private party transaction anyway given that it needed $1200 in brake work. If I sold it private party I also would have had to reregister and reinsure it (or driven it illegally which I don't consider an option) so having it towed away was worth the convenience. That they somehow auctioned it for $1700 is just a bonus. (Which reminds me, I need to get them some pertinent details so that I can claim the whole $1700 instead of just the $500...) |

That is another factor. I don't think our car is registered or insured, anymore.
