Eating before you run (Read 176 times)

II Run II

What do you guys eat for lunch if you're planning to run at around 3:00 (in the afternoon)?

    12-week layoff

Greek yogurt, string cheese, banana, water at around 1.  Small snack (fun size candy bar) about 2, before running at 4.

What do you guys eat for lunch if you're planning to run at around 3:00 (in the afternoon)?

To be perfectly honest, whatever I want, a black bean and steak burrito, a salad, a curry buffet, a can of sardines, a bacon/mushroom/blue cheese burger, you name it, I eat it.  Smile

        Fat old man PRs:

        • 1-mile (point to point, gravity assist): 5:50
        • 2-mile: 13:49
        • 5K (gravity assist last mile): 21:31
        • 5-Mile: 37:24
        • 10K (first 10K of my Half Marathon): 48:16
        • 10-Mile (first 10 miles of my Half Marathon): 1:17:40
        • Half Marathon: 1:42:13

Same thing I eat for lunch if I'm not running at 3:00 in the afternoon.

I would eat a normal lunch as long as it wasn't too heavy like mexican food.

            some call me Tim

Anything, so long as it's 90 minutes before I run. If not, I eat nothing until I get back. No problem unless I plan to run over 10 miles, which I never do in that situation because I don't have the time.

I knew my guts weren't perfect, but hanging around with runners made me realize the sheer volume of people with princess guts.

                I eat normally.

We lunch at 12:00 here in Holland, so that I would have time enough even for a hard or long run.

I don't care about eating if I have to do a recovery run, eve if it's a medium or long one below 10-15 miles even if I only have an hour between lunch or dinner and running.

I am able to do this since I learned that I was gluten intolerant. Earlier I had a lot of GI issues. Now I even tried eating chocolate, ice cream and curry without a single problem... well I'm somewhat slower, that's all.

For serious long runs, hard intervals and the like I do not eat at all and I do them if possible in the morning.

don't eat donuts before a long run.

Regular lunch before afternoon run. Only takes a couple of hours for it to digest.

                  Nothing before a morning run.

                    not bad for mile 25

I will do everything I can to avoid an afternoon run.

I swim, bike or run for lunch, then have a light meal or protein shake. I then swim, bike or run about 4 pm.

The pain that hurts the worse is the imagined pain. One of the most difficult arts of racing is learning to ignore the imagined pain and just live with the present pain (which is always bearable.) - Jeff

How long are you going to run?  3-5 miles, eat whatever you want.  5-8 miles, eat a light lunch & have a light snack afterward.  8+ miles have some easily digestible carbs and a snack afterward.  I would go for PB on toast or some cereal.

Depends on the run. If its anything under 10 miles, I eat normally. 10+ then I generally have a liter carb lunch (ate carb-rich food a day or two before) like a protein shake/bar or steak or something alike.

I don't have a gentle stomach so I can eat just about anything before a run.
