How to devise a beginner training plan (Read 861 times)

Call me sexist, but if a girl taunts me on a run, It'll probably motivate me to do what needs to be done.  Not sure if that works in the Armed Forces.

I would not ask the colonel for further instructions (like whether he wants you to run with the guy, etc).

The colonel might see this as a PT test for the guy, and a leadership test for you. It would be a good thing if both of you succeed.

          skeetr,

If I were you, I'd give the guy your plan, tell him when you run and that he's welcome to join you. Don't alter your own running, but even meeting someone to start can help people who don't like to run get out the door. I don't think there's a lot more you can do, I wouldn't compromise my own training for it, or take complete responsibility from him.

I'd do more for him if he was one of my troops coming off of an injury, but for a peer, that's above and beyond. Actually physically forcing the guy to run is out of the question, but shame can be a powerful motivator. Wink

Your Col probably wants this problem to go away. Giving you the task of making the guy a schedule is his solution, and he doesn't want to hear about it unless you've got something meaningful to tell him, something like you honestly believe there's a medical reason the guy can't run, or that he's not cooperating, rude and harassing.

Good luck, and don't get too involved in it.
