Watched the premiere last night. I thought it was quite good. Tremendous job capturing the look and feel of 1973. Ultimately, anachronistic gimmickry aside, the characters have to be good, and the star (can't remember his name) was real good, along with an excellent supporting cast that includes Michael Imperioli (sporing wicked siudeburns and a Fu Manchu) and the super-cool Harvey Keitel.

So I'm a fan so far. The 70's were such a funky, hairy, sweaty, sexy decade that I almost wish I'd been born 10~15 years earlier. Great music, obviously.

Hope the show continues to be good.

I was there in the 70s. Wasn't that great. I mean, Happy Days and Good Times were considered good TV.

Didn't see the show... I'll try to catch it next time.

(in other random news, I did catch last night's Office and aside from the main gag, it kind of sucked)
With realistic Pants-on-Fire action!

Yeah, that was pretty good, I thought. They'll have to be really creative to make the scenario last.

Not everything was bad, c'mon guys ...

I came of age in the 70's - I'd have given my eyeteeth for one of those Screamin' Chicken TransAms!

As to the Life on Mars show, I missed it but I can't see how they can make that interesting for more than a few shows. I WAS one of the That 70's Show kids but that show was uninteresting after one episode.

It's based on a short-lived, but much-loved British show that only ran for 1 season. So maybe their plan is for it to be a relatively short run.

Ultimately, the 2008 cop who somehow finds himself in 1973 is really just a gimmick to create the usual fish-out-of-water tale -- how will the modern cop with his modern ways deal with the old-fangled ways of 35 years earlier?

As for That 70's Show, to me the 70's schtick wore off relatively quickly, but it was a funny well-written show that transcended the gimmick. At least for a while.

Guys. Stick with it. It is absolutely awesome. It will draw you in and keep you there. It ran for one series but then there was a follow up series (which was even better in my opinion - largely due to very hot female action) and was set in the Eighties.

One of my all time favourite TV shows.

Some of us stuck to Levi's and t-shirts instead of the gaudy stuff... and there were still real Hemi's, 440 6-paks, 454's etc. being built although they were starting to fade away.... I got my first real pair of running shoes in '74 - some blue Adidas that cost an outrageous $20 or so.
