Forums >Running 101>Pace calculator (McMillan alternative)?
Is there any good free calculator equivalent to McMillan's which is no longer free?
I don't feel to pay $5.99 a month just to use the calculator.
MTA: It is still free. I missed notice the training pace tab. In the old version, the training pace was just under the race pace. Thanks everyone.

Still looks free to me...
Here's the one I use:

I just used McMillans and it still seemed free to me.
Not as intuitive as before and you have to click through some tabs, but it still gives all the equivalent race times and recommended training paces.
Here's Jack Daniels calculator - http://www.runworks.com/calculator.html
This site has a bunch of cool stuff and an excel spreadsheet that you can download that has all kinds of information and calculations including several what if type calculations on losing weight, different temperatures, etc.

Sometimes these calculators are a little scary to me. I put in my 10K time, and the 5K, 5M, 15K, and 10M are all within a minute of my actual times, most within seconds. The marathon, um, no.

This one offers comparisons using a variety of different formulas.

Since I've been training under Tinman, mainly for the maraton, my times line up from the 800m to the marathon. THAT'S scary...
Here's a good article that's a little more complex than a calculator on comparing race performances.

Sort of like the election poll aggregators.
Good article by Mark Hadley, Jeff.
Moving up from 10k, his "neutral" equivalents are more aggressive than McMillan, closer to Daniels.
The McMillan Equivalents are between Hadley's "Moderate Short Distance" and "Strong Short Distance." Probably appropriate since McMillan's audience is recreational runners, Mark is talking elite.
