Its not mine to give, but yes, you should take it.

"No," said Pooh humbly, "there isn't. But there was going to be when I began it. It's just that something happened to it along the way."”

OK, not that big of a drop. But last year it was 2:55:10 to get into Corral #1. So its only 34 seconds.

This is a chart I made for Boston qualifying times vs. bib #s in 2005. So it has tightened up quite a bit since then, some each year. Then, looks like about 2:58 would have been good for corral 1.

Any advice for reviving dead legs?  I'm a little over 5 weeks out from the Country Music Marathon and have hit a rough patch.  I took Wednesday - Friday off last week, had a crappy long run on Saturday and slugged out a recovery run w/Hill Sprints on Sunday.  Monday evening I had a  decent moderate effort run followed by another decent 6 x 1K workout on the road Tuesday evening.  Wednesday morning legs were dead for a 10 mile easy run.  If I hadn't run an out and back route, I'd of thrown in the towel @ 6 or 7 miles.  I didn't feel up to an early morning 14 mile run @ easy pace today.

Looking back, I have built mileage for 3 weeks (+5mi. / week), then dropped down one week, before building again.  Should have let my legs adapt to consistent mileage.  The week before I crashed, I'd crammed miles  late in the week and ran a 6K race following my second ever 90 mile week.

Ultimately I feel like there is still plenty of time before race day.  Just looking for recovery advice and/or should I adjust my weekly mileage.  Including this week my remaining mpw are: 80, 90,95,100, 75, 60, Race Day.

Hey, good luck. Hopefully it's just a bad patch of training and you'll come out the other side with no problems.

You should adjust your weekly mileage, for sure, as this is always adjustable. But the issue is more likely the intensity of your running. The smart plan would just be to stay the course for a little while, slow the pace down, and work through it. Don't push anything until you feel like pushing. Your body is using its energy to adapt now, which is good--this is the training effect!

A final point. Your legs should be tired. You're 5 weeks out from your marathon. But tempting as it is you shouldn't get caught up in your mileage goals from here on out. If you hold 80's, you're gonna kick ass.

That's corral #2 (the leading digit).

Ken, are you doing the 12k this Sun?

Like you, I didn't have a good Norcal 10 miler 2 weeks ago due to my cold.  Hope to run better this time.  But also like you, I am training through the race and will not rest before.

Congratulations to jordirio and T1dawk for well-run sub3's.

With a sub-60 10miler Purdey has shown how to train for these things.  Damm impressive. I'm gonna have to go study that training log to get some ideas for next cycle (as if I don't know what's gonna be in there - run LOTS!).

                          .

I ran a 10miler this past weekend in a disappointing 64:30.  I felt like I was in better shape than  the 62:53 I did back in January but it just didn't happen for me.  The Jan race was in perfect conditions and this one was only slightly worse but my performance was significantly worse.  No excuses as I felt pretty good before and even during the race.    Sometimes it's just not your day.  Last tune-up race for me before Boston is the Across the Bay 12K on March 21.   This will be a train-through race so not expecting a great time there.

                            Nice number! I'm 2120....

You're an anomaly. You and your 30 miles/day and your 200+ mile weeks. You've already run 122 miles this week and its just Thursday!

Be smart, but trust you training - Nothing like a good taper to put some zing back in your step.

Thomas - I agree with advice given.  You're suppose to be tired training for your marathon.  I think some lower intensity and a day off once in a while this close is probably good.   Too, are you getting enough calories and fluids?  95 and 100 mile weeks just a couple weeks out seems might be a bit high?

Looks like there will be several of us in #2 hole at the start.   Looked at some youtube videos today and starting to get pretty excited.
