Has anyone run Austin? It's this weekend and curious about the course.

Thanks

I'm from Austin, but I've never run the half.  Have fun!  I miss Austin.

Once upon a time, this was a point-to-point race that trended downhill.  A few years back, they changed it to a roly poly loop course. Logistically simpler, but the current course has a reputation for being harder. While it undoubtedly is a little bit harder, the numbers I've seen indicate that it is still a reasonably fast course.

Anyway, I've not run the new course yet.  I will probably run the half or full next year.

Good luck!

Edited to add: ah, I see you aren't from the area.  Austin is great fun.  This time of year the weather can be all over the map.  It could be hot or ice cold.  Or do both during the race.  Do NOT trust the forecast until the night before.  Austin weather is a little less bouncy than Dallas, but it could still do just about anything except snow two feet.

yes, about the weather. I've lived in Texas before and I have my throwaway clothing all ready for the start. It's looking to be chilly, but once we get moving should be ok. Anything is better than the 30 inches of snow I have here and more on the way.

My mom said she's worn her coat more this winter than the last several years combined!  She likes the cooler weather.

I ran a 5K in Austin a couple of years ago in early April.  The first morning I was in town, I ran at 7 am and it was 69 degrees and very humid - I about died.  Then just a few mornings later, it was 46 degrees at race time!  I was underdressed and freezing until I managed to run enough to warm up.

it's a long gradual uphill the first couple of miles, then a long down hill the next couple of miles. it then turns mostly flat for a few miles, followed by a few tough rolling hills after mile 8 or so. the finish is downhill. it's an honest course, not fast by any means, but not unmanageable.

the weather should be perfect. maybe 40 at race time.

Thanks for everyone's input. It's looking like cool weather and I'll have to wear tights.
