Excessive supplement use: A new eating disorder for men

This doesn't come as a surprise to me, but it's about time it's being recognized.

I also, anecdotally, know of a lot of women who have shifted their obsessive focus on restricting calories to ingesting the precise amount and types of supplements.  Same disordered obsession...  Food and fueling yourself should not be stressful.

Not running for my health, but in spite of it.

      Mmmmm...beer

Not surprising, I know more than a few people who probably fall into this category.  From my own personal experience being a former fat guy, it can be difficult to not fall into that trap of constantly pursuing the "perfect" body.

Right, it's stressful and expensive as well.

The article struck a chord with me because I have a FB friend who is a bodybuilder and frequently posts photos of men (sometimes women) that evoke high praise from their group, but to my eye are just pathologically, bizarrely "built."  Creepy, almost nauseating.  I imagine it's closely related to anorexia.

When I was going to a PT I could not believe the people who tried to give me drugs. It happened 2-3 times a week.

I don't know why they thought I would take them. I think its part of that culture.

Other patients? Like what? pain killers, muscle relaxers, weed, valium? Shoulda taken them up on the weed, leave that other stuff alone.

I totally agree with you. It becomes even more stressful because they're trying to achieve the perfect body and spending so much on it, which should not be the case.
