howdy,

18 yo male, started running a year ago, never ran, never did anything Blush
PB on the 10K 58:53 minutes Tight lipped, 5K 25:50, 1,5K 6:40
typical mileage this year between 10 and 15 per week. Last few weeks 25 miles after the buildup, now i am trying to improve the weekly mileage 5-10% per week. I also started low heart rate training, which i like very much Smile

Questions:
- PB on the 5K went from 39 to 25:50 in one year, what times(5/10K) may i expect end 2008, because i am seriously improving the mileage now? Will sub 55 be hard or can i even go sub 50/45, because i am still young?
- I ran fast most of the time during my old low weekly mileage. Can i run more then 5-10% each week, because i do low heart rate training now, and that is less demanding of tendons, etcetera...? In other words, what buildup should i do next?

Thanks!

EDIT: no overweight

Turbo, it is hard to answer any of your questions without being able to see your profile or training log. Though you are eighteen and can probably recover quickly, alot of the info you want depends on your current weight.

What I wouldn't give to be running on 18 year old legs again.

Turbo, at your age, you should be able to withstand some pretty aggressive training but you're smart to build up to it gradually.

Once you get up over 30 miles per week, I'd start adding some limited tempo work back into your routine, maybe 1 or 2 runs per week. Once you've maintained that kind of mileage for 6 months or so, you will probably be amazed at how much faster you've become.

I don't think it is out of the question to expect a sub 22 5K and sub 45 10K in the next year. Heck you're 18, you can do anything you put your mind and training to.
I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.
