Should I run today? (Read 710 times)

First of all, the last 3 weeks I have just been getting back to running regularly after a non-running-related rib injury that sidelined me for over a month. So I don't really want to break my good streak I have going.

That said, my yesterday started out disastrous. I had an 8 AM final (I am NOT a morning person), and as I bolted out the door at 7:45 I realized I had locked my car keys in my apartment. So, this little problem lead to me hopping on my bike and riding like a woman possessed for 6 miles to get to my final on time. Then, of course, the return trip.

I haven't been biking much this year, so today my legs feel like absolute garbage. I know my run, if I go, is going to suck. I'm just wondering if I SHOULD go. Tomorrow is out because I have 3 grad parties to go to, and Sunday is out because that's graduation day. I don't want to start missing that may days again, but I don't want to get injured either.

Advice?

Don't run. Rest your legs from the bike ride.

I wouldn't run. Running is bad for your knees.

Maybe I do need to HTFU...it's not that I'm trying to get out of running today, I'm just wondering if it's smart. I'd rather miss a few days and stay healthy, than go, get hurt, and miss a few weeks. Or, maybe a super slow recovery run would make me feel better. Suppose I could always take a walk break if I really felt like I needed it huh?

A slow receovery run not only won't hurt you but will help with the quads issue from cycling.

You know what they say about "hair of the dog.."

And Lank - I never thought of it that way - perhaps you are relying too much on garlic or those 557 intervals are whats causing the knees to hurt. Wink

Whenever I am returing fomr injury or not sure about whether a tweak is an injury or not, i just walk/run the planned distance - that way you're out there but chance of exacerbating the injury or doing any damage in the first place is minimal.
If you give yourself permission to walk/run then you don't beat yourself up about it when you do.

If nothing is torn or broken...Run. Always prefer easy jogging to taking days off because your legs are tired. Get in the habit of doing this and they won't get tired as often.

So you leave it at home then?

I'm going running tonight. I really need to just HTFU I think. And, since I've been moving around today, I feel a little better, so maybe that run won't suck at much as I thought at first.
