Have you ever noticed that two completely unrelated songs may sound similar?

First off, I do NOT mean stuff sampled from other stuff.

And I'm also not limiting it to stuff that was obviously kiped. Like George Harrison ripping off He's So Fine for My Sweet Lord. Or the fact that the Ghostbusters theme is really just I Want a New Drug (Huey Lewis sued).

Stuff like...

1. Have you ever paid attention to the Robert Plant screech in The Immigrant Song? Sure sounds like the theme for Get Smart.

2. The riff throughout the Genesis song Misunderstanding sounds like Led Zeppelin's Fool in the Rain but slowed way down.

3. At the beginning of the movie "Father Goose", Cary Grant is humming a tune. The soundtrack picks it up and plays it too. Sure sounds like Hogan's Heroes.

Yes, I realize that certain progressions just kind of make musicial "sense", so they repeat a lot. Some are just extra interesting to me.

What songs sound similar... or have similar bits... to you?

Degree of Difficulty: Stay away from stuff that's simply sampled from other stuff. No "hey, Tone Loc sounds like Van Halen!".

You'd have to be a pretty dedicated Style Council fan to pick up on this one, but I'm convinced Lenny Kravitz totally ripped them off with his song.

You're the Best Thing (Style Council) - Link to a google search, our work firewall is preventing me from going to any of the direct links.

Lenny Kravitz' song "It Ain't Over Till It's Over" sounds eerily similar.
