She's graduating from high school.
Ok then, back to your original question.... Since this is HS, send all the announcements you'd like, everyone will want to know she's graduating and send her card, and you a note of praise for surviving. Only direct family and very, very close family friends should even consider gifts, and none should be expected other than the car and cash you've promised her. (this is Texas, after all)
The announcement will not make folks think they're invited to the ceremony, if you're worried that someone will just show up thinking you invited them, you could add a little note "...we'd love to have everyone attend the graduation itself, however seats are limited to two per graduate. Love to have you at the party to celebrate Suzy's big day."
The announcement should make folks want to come the party -- that's what you want, right?
Thanks, MilkTruck--that all makes perfect sense. But no car--she'll keep driving the same used car that she had to help pay for. True, we live in Texas, but we're not in oil or cattle.
I like telling people that my mom owns part of her family's oil well. Cool, except that her mother was one of TWELVE children, so by the time the money is split up among all the heirs, the check amounts to about $40 a year.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.
