Yay!!! Dane was on a waiting list for an amazing charter Montessori school down near where did works and where we hope to move back to eventually (housing market in MI is awful, so even once we do get our house on the market, it could sit for years--we're prepared for that). The school is K-8, so once Dane's in, he would attend until HS.
Anyhow...I just got the call that there is an opening! Yippeee!!! Andrea's DD got into their kindergarten program, but because they are so popular they have a lottery system and Dane ended up #1 on their waiting list for 1st/2nd grade. We had really started to resign ourselves to the possibility that he wouldn't get in...our second choice school would have also been good (another highly regarded charter school in the area that has an emphasis on Fine and Performing Arts and Music), but we know Dane does well with the Montessori method of learning.
This is so awesome for him...he has been in a Montessori kindergarten near us this year and it's really been wonderful for him. He is SO not a desk kind of kid--neither was I. School was a struggle for me, since I didn't like switching gears. Dane's the same way. If he's working on something intensely he can do it for hours--something traditional school set-ups don't encourage. He's a good independent learner and I really think he's going to do much better being encouraged to learn and study this way. The state standardized test scores from this school are the highest of any school in this area, so what they're doing and how they're doing it definitely works.
Plus this school does a lot to instill community service in the kids. The older kids did a trip earlier this Summer to bring school supplies to an impoverished reservation in SD. They also do camping trips with students each Summer.

Ahhh...does WG do full day K?
Nah, no school supplies, yet. Vickie said lists will go out soon. I may grab a few things, though I have no idea what might be different from traditional school. I know WG doesn't really use regular textbooks.

yep they do...part of me wonders how hannah will fare for that long (especially if she still wants to take ballet again). I know it wouldn't be the same as being chained to a desk for 7 hrs, but it may be a bit of a challenge adapting. She's such a huge night owl (gee, i wonder where she gets that from?? lol) which will make it even harder. I've already starting shifting her bedtime back, to help get ready...hopefully it will help.
I'm taking advantage of all the school sales i can find- between h and i, i'm sure i'll find a use for the 30 thousand notebooks and pencils that i picked up.
trying to decide what to do once hannah is in school all day...either going full day myself in school (instead of the piecemeal approach i am doing now...damn fin-aid for running out!! grr), or getting a job. The new Target is supposed to open in a couple months- i'll probably put in an app there (or maybe go back to JCP for the holidays). I'm just leery of working while she is in school...i'm afraid of getting a manager or someone who tries to keep me on too long when someone doesn't show or whatnot (like D&W did).... |

I think she'll do OK in full day K. Maybe the first few months will be hard, but she'll be great by Christmas. We started doing the 2 full days with Dane after the holidays...he was always giving me such a hard time when it was time to go home at lunch.
I wish we lived closer to the south side of Musk. Man, I would love to look for a retail job--I worked for Target when I was first preggers with Dane. Once I started having bleeding issues I quit. I just couldn't take being at work and being paranoid that I might miscarry. Plus I was taking Summer classes and we had just moved up here, so the driving was getting to me, too. Target was a nice place to work.

how goes the Walgreens app? Have you heard anything yet? What part of Target did you work in? It would certainly fund my insane love affair for the store... We'll see though- they don't open until Oct 18, so there's still time to change and unchange my mind before then. *snort* |

I haven't heard anything from Walgreens...my guess is they are sitting on applications until closer to opening. I think there's probably at least another month or two before that happens.
I worked pretty much all over the store when I was there...anywhere other than clothing, IIRC. Sporting goods, housewares, etc. I was starting to do some cashier work, too. I think I was only there for a couple of months before I found out I was pregnant.
