Anyone use DailyMile (Read 2248 times)

I've been using Running Ahead for the last year, and I love it.  It's easy, looks slick, and has everything I need.  I'm surprised it's not a subscription based service.  Anyhow, I have a couple of friends who use Dailymile, and they really like it, and I kind of like the way you share your workouts with other people in your community.  Anyone have any DM experience?  Is there any way to link RA to DM like you can link your workouts to FB?

you share your workouts with other people in your community

      What does this mean?

I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.

With DailyMile, you can view workouts from other people in your same (or nearby) zipcodes.  So you can see what other people are doing in your area.

I use DailyMile. It's kind of like Facebook but for exercising mostly. You post stuff and you can have friends. When you post a workout, your workout appears in your friends' feeds and vice versa. You can then comment on their workouts and they can comment on yours or send you motivation. And I guess you can have DM autopost to FB and Twitter but I don't do that. I have to admit that the thing that made me sign up for DM was that I could rate my workouts with smiley faces (but I'm silly like that).

It works with Nike+ but not Garmin (at least not yet). (eta: I manually enter in my run data)

There's also a forum, and you can also post notes, photos, videos.

Here there are groups.  You can look at workouts in groups among the members.  Works great, has for years Smile

Well obviously I like both RA and DM b/c I use both. I have no idea how to comment on someone's specific workout at RA though. I can them (if public) but I don't see how to comment?

The idea of commenting on somebody's log has been discussed.  It was not a hugely popular idea around RA.

I wasn't meaning to imply that RA should add it. But I think that's what DM users like about DM. It's all that social networking stuff rah rah rah.

                  More Cowbell!

DM =Twitter/Facebook+Running Log.  You follow other runners, they follow you, and you get a stream of the activities of everyone you follow.  When you post a workout (or a comment, link, picture, video, etc), anyone who follows you sees it in their fstream.  Commenting on their workout is equivalent to doing an @ reply on Twitter, or commenting on someone's FB status update.

It's just a running log built around a social network framework.  Forums are very lightweight, but the interface is nice and dead simple to use, very eye-candy-ish.  (Yes, I checked it out.  Just out of curiosity b/c it seemed like all of my Twitter runner followers were on there.  No, I never contemplated switching.)

I suppose if you want to comment on someone's workout, just send them a direct message.

I guess the OP is saying he like's RA's log better, but likes the social network aspect of DM.  Whatever floats your boat.  RA is a log first, where DM is a social network first.  Different, but related beasts.

The thing I like about RA, we can customize it to the way we want it.  I like the fact that I can categorize runs by different type of run, whereas on DM, it looks like it's just a run, without breaking down the type.  That's why I like RA more.  But, the DM social aspect just seems cool I guess, that's why I was asking.  FWIW, I would NOT want people to be able to comment on my RA workouts.  It's my log, I don't want others to put comments about what I should or shouldn't be doing.

I feel compelled to keep logs at multiple sites. And on my computer. And a paper log, but that one isn't working out so well.

i started using DM because it was kind of fun - some people i know in real life were on there and it seemed interesting. it's fun having people tell you how awesome you are after every run you do.  however, that's more like my 'fun' log/the log i use to keep track of workouts other than running...it's way too hard to log any kind of workout other than just a straight run for time and they round up times/distances which drives me INSANE. i much prefer the logging format of RA and pretty much feel like it gives me everything i could ever need in an online log...don't remember how i stumbled across it, but really glad i did!

One of the things a lot of people use Daily Mile and other logs for is challenges.  It has an easy to setup challenge section where you can compete against different groups.  I used it for awhile for 2 different challenges - one was to see which state could log the most miles and another was a male vs female challenge.  But I enjoy RunningAhead much better than Daily Mile, though it is very slick and beautiful - but I like function over form at least in a running log!

I think you can get help for that.
