I did a study.

Sample size = 1.

Conclusion: downhills do hurt.

You can't fight science.

Should I stop and drop first?

No. Wait. That's for something else.

I disagree.

Running downhill IS high impact relative to running uphill. But most of the impact is realized in your low back and quadriceps. Unless you use proper downhill running form (i.e., lean forward, don't overstride). But running downhill is not bad for your knee joints per se.

Flying Monkey Dude, you misread his post I think. You are in agreement; uphill-good, downhill-bad.

"Watching TV will cause your booty to grow."

Not sure where this comes from but it's a good one...

But since there are a LOT of stupid people out there, and some of them run, the vast anti-knee conspiracy (VAKC) does have a point. A lot of runners probably do hurt their knees.

On another site (sucks, can't find it) a guy was looking to do some hill training on the TM and asked how high he should elevate the back end of the machine to simulate downhill running.

Seriously?

Just make sure he puts the video on YouTube when he tries it. Should be funny.

Downhill hurts.

But it does not damage.

Unless you do it stupid.

Plus, during hill reps, the downhill component ought to be so easy that it is nearly a walk. Otherwise you are not taking the ups hard enough Big grin

90% of people who have this or views like it ... are not active. Yeah, OK - I knoooooooow - it's bad. I am really silly for putting myself at risk. I should just go down with all the silent killer diseases like all you other couch potatoes! WHAT WAS I THINKING ALL THESE YEARS. I am so misinformed! And to hell with those endorphins, they're probably just "all in my head" anyway. Who can really prove those exist?

I already got a good laugh, but I wouldn't mind another. Please find!

I guess you start asking questions like this when you've been subjected to a Samuel L. Jackson weekend movie marathon.

Plus most races (at least trail races out here) have a LOT of downhill. It's a good skill to master. Most people never work on their downhill running... a big guy like me can make up a LOT of time on the downhills Big grin
