I got one from my father!

I've been thrilled with it so far (except that my average HR seems too low).

Mine is on the way. My wife bought me a Garmin eTrex Venture, which I graciously thanked her for and delicately suggested that the 305 would be much more useful.

UpNorth......

hahaha that's a good way to put it! I'm sure your wife would rather you have the one that you get more use out of anyway. I'm dying to get out and use mine again but it's still too cold here....had to give it up and head to the gym instead.

The best software for the Garmin IMO is sportracks. It is donation ware so there is no risk in trying it out.

Unfortunately, not. I like it well enough that I run it under VMware Fusion (had trouble getting the drivers to work under Parallels).
I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

Jason, I left my Garmin by the window while I was getting ready, connected no probs here - even with the heavy snow. Have you tried that? It does not like connecting when not sitting still.

just stood outside for a couple of minutes (like an idiot) and decided to pull the chute and go with the timex. Hang-over was starting to set in so I needed to get moving.

So has everyone figured out what their HR levels are? I haven't a clue - I know I need to find my resting heart rate, but it is too dark in the morning to see a watch - and are you suppose to do it a few times and take the average? Or am I being to scientific?? Wink

There is a piece of software called Ascent that is written for the Mac. It compares favorably with SportTracks and is much better than Training Center (IMO). The only hitch is that you can't upload your custom workouts to your Forerunner from Ascent .... you still have to use GTC for that.

Check out Ascent at http://www.montebellosoftware.com/

There's a free trial there.
