Lomong beat Rupp, IIRC.

oh.. USATF.. Got it. Thanks.
Does anybody know why Lomong raced 3k (and not 1500) last weekend?
I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that he trains with Lagat?
Is he training for the 5k?
That would make things a bit more interesting.
Choge, Farah, Lagat advance to finals.
Bernard Lagat is like a cat! Entire heat here.
Thank you. You'd think I'd have looked there, first.

So.... why don't they DQ Lagat for stepping inside -- how does that work?
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
If it's on the straight (as this was) then in order to be disqualified you either need to impede another athlete or gain an advantage.
In this case I think there is probably an argument that he did gain an advantage - the reason he stepped off was that he was trying to pass someone on the inside where there wasn't really space. On the other hand he didn't get by at the point where he stepped off - that happened a few paces later IIRC.
I think he was quite lucky not be disqualified, but it's not cut and dry according to the rules.
