Crazy gym treadmill (Read 515 times)

A Saucy Wench

Doing recovery run on the treadmill this morning.  ~ 10 minutes at 5.8 (10:20ish) and then decided ok I'll bump it up to 6.0 (10:00).  As I approach the 30 minute mark the total miles clicked over to 3.0 before I hit 30:00.  I should have been something like 20 seconds BEHIND at that point.  By 3.5 I was ahead significantly.  So the treadmill kept telling me I was runing 6.0 but it was adding miles on at a rate of about 6.1-6.2

I have had treadmill calibration be off before, I just usually assume it is off.  But I have never had a treadmill that the computer doesnt agree with itself on how fast it is going.

My treadmill pace sometimes jumps around  a bit, especially when its cold, when I am trying to run faster on that thing, I don't feel any perceptible change in my stride or pace.

Could something like that be happening, where it goes faster for a couple of minutes, or the computer thinks it is while you are not looking.

P.S My treadmill is a 6 year old Walmart POS (but it's still working so not too unhappy about that), so YMMV

Maybe that's why it's called the Crazy Gym.

HEY!  Oh.  Well right.  By the way I "saw" (as in nearly stepped on and did a freaky little two step to avoid stepping on) my first snake of the year during my run last week.  Thought of you.  Happy running.

That's funny and kind of annoying (since, I bet, you don't have oodles of time to mess around with these things).

When I see an older treadmill, I subject it to the walk test: I set it on 5.0 or so. If I don't need to trot a bit to keep up, I pick another treadmill.

If we don’t try we’ll never know. At least I can find out how good I can be.  I can have an answer at the end of the days, and have a hell of a good time with the process. -Desi Davila

Thats the thing, these arent the old crappy treadmills - they have 2 off to the side that I only use when the others are full.  They are kind of fun because I can make them go faster by running harder sometimes and the pace flickers and caps out at like 7 mph.
