1. When did/does your Marathon Training Officially start?

Already started, I'm doing a 20 week program.  In week 6, for October 11

2.  How many weeks do you plan?

20 weeks.

3.  Do you follow standard plan, if so which one?

I'm useing the Coolrunning.com intermediate training program.  It is goes 6 days a week.  This is my first attempt at the full marathon, but I think I'll still be able to handle the training schedule.  So far so good anyways (knock on wood).  I'm pretty busy with other sports as well tennis and softball, but I'm planning on phasing those activities out as my weekly millage increases.

I think it's funny that NeedACleverName is running over 100 miles a week and hasn't started training for his marathon yet.

I have to say thanks also to Buckeye for starting this thread.  It's really interesting to see all the marathon's accross the country and see everybody's goals.  Good Job Buckeye! (I can't believe I'm saying that - Go PSU)

Are you following a training plan?

Yes, I'm trying to follow the Running Planet 3:10 Marathon Training Plan

When does/did your training plan start?

Actually started two months ago with an 8 week "preseason" to get back into shape.  Actual Plan starts next week

How long is the plan

20 week program starts next week.  Hopefully will lead to great things in Philly in November

I have been debating switching the plan to another one with less mileage.  I'm not what you call a fluid runner and have been injury prone.  I really believe that if I can get through this plan, I will qualify for boston.  I think I may be developing some Peroneal tendonitis (my diagnosis - not sure if the internet is a good thing or bad thing), but my running is still going OK so far.  I'm going to try to do more strengthening and flexibility work to try to ward off injury.  I just am not sure if a plan that I replace mileage with cross-training (like the F.I.R.S.T plan) will get me to my goal.

1) officially? i dunno, all the time?

2) I usually plan out all the weeks then totally ignore what I plan. I have a general structure

3) I follow a standard plan of my own creation. I say standard because I have evolved it and it has some rhyme & reason and most weeks look kind of similar, but it is also flexible. I hate when people are slaves to a schedule and ignore possibilities or problems.

I think it depends on what you call "training for the marathon"  I tend to ramp my mileage very very little during marathon training.  Oh there will be a few more long runs in the 18-20 mile range instead of the 14-16 mile range, but other than that miles dont change that much.  Focus changes.  Runs start to have more purpose instead of just going out for a run.  If you have a base like NACN does then training for a specific event is fine tuning and the period is much shorter.

1.) When does Marathon Training Officially start?
August 24, but for three weeks it overlaps with training for a half-marathon which begins on July 13.

2.)  How many weeks?
16...but again, I'll be building training miles for the half starting July 13 which really puts it at something like 21 or 22.

3.)  Standard plan?
I'm modifying the Bart Yasso plan in the July Runner's World Magazine.  Looks like a do-able plan for me.  My goal is to finish the December 12 Charlotte RnR Marathon.  Not worried too much about time, but would like to come in under 4:30.

3.  Do you follow standard plan, if so which one?   My own compilation of many plans.  Add 10% a week.  4 week taper.  Several races and other tests along the way. Always one day off a week. One easy day, one long day, one day of speedwork.

How many weeks?  20-24

Do you follow a plan, if so, which one?  college coach develops a plan for me with an emphasis on tempo runs, fast finish long runs and mileage topping out 75 mpw
