        What a great story! Congratulations!

         

        I run with a Garmin, and I plan my races (not that I run a lot of them), but I make myself ignore the thing until I hit the mile markers. It's good to have a general idea of your pace, but as someone said you don't want to become a slave to it, especially during a race.
