Rider on the storm

"Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas.  Has it been five years?  Six? It seems like a lifetime, the kind of peak that never comes again.  San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be part of. But no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time in the world. Whatever that meant.

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning.   And that, I think, was the handle- that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of old and evil. Not any mean or

military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vagas and look west, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the

high-water mark- that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back. "

If you did not like it, then it is not excellent.

I thought Deerhunter (Francotirador) was excellent, but I'm not sure I liked it, and I wouldn't want to see it again.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

M Night Shamalam.  Well, the few of his that don't suck.

I revisited Signs recently and was surprised at how much I liked it.  Again.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Last night, I saw the movie UNSTOPPABLE with Denzel Washington.  It was an edge of your seat thriller. Loved it and definitely recommend!

                Remaking True Grit?

                The Cohen Brothers?

                Come on.

It intrigues me, but I don't want to think about it as anyone other than John Wayne, Glen Campbell, and "the kid who grew up and became the mom in Better Off Dead".

                I look my best blurry!

Went to see Love and Other Drugs last night.  It was the first of 2 movies that have been recently released that were filming in Pittsburgh(where I live).  It is a chick flick for sure.  It is a bit of a hodge podge and I can see why the reviews were mixed.  It is a combination of a good bit of sex/nudity(Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal are both eye candy), loser turned ambitious drug rep(viagra salesman), funny fat dude(Who isn't that funny especially because no way in Hell Jake would have a brother like that!), love story and degenerative disease tear jerker.  There you have it.  I would still recommend it, with tissues in hand, when it comes out on video.

Looking forward to seeing The Next Three Days the new Russell Crowe film.  I hear that it has lots of 'Burgh scenery.  Unfortunately, not the beautiful parts.  Pittsburgh really is a gem.

                  Has anyone seen Megamind?

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?

                      Captain Oveur: I can't tell.

Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.

Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.

Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?

Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.

Agreed, its a big risk to remake such a classic. The trailers look good, but that's not always a good measure.

Jane: Thank you, I just had it stuffed.

Finally saw How to Train Your Dragon.  Awesome...just flat-out fun and sweet.

I rarely look forward to any movie, but for some reason this one I just had to see!  I watched it for the first time on Thanksgiving.  I loved it!  Definitely a favorite!

I just brought home Naked Gun and Naked Gun 2 1/2 for my 13yo DS.  I need to see if the library has Airplane.  I felt the need to introduce him to the classics.

Those would be classics but for O.J. Simpson. That kind of spoils it for me.
