That runner kid
I've been running cross country and track for my high school for a few years now, and since it's my senior year, I really want to try a marathon. I'm experienced enough at running, usually 40-50 miles a week, and once a week Ive been doing long runs, which right now are about a half marathon long each time. I was hoping to do it sometime at the end of January/early February, since it will be in between racing seasons and I live in the South where the cold wont be an issue. Also it would give me a good few months to prepare and train for longer distances. So I was wondering, where do people go to try to find a marathon to run? I don't have any in mind, so is there like some website that keeps track of races going on or something? I'd appreciate any help you could offer.
Harsha,
There are more than a few site offering guides. One, for example, is marathonguide.com.
Marathonguide.com has a pretty comprehensive list.
Enjoy.

Thank you for taking the time to read my signature!
in addition to the above suggestions/links, check with your local running store. They are usually in the know with what local races are happening. And if your area has an organized running club - they usually sponsor a variety of races throughout the year and can also be a good source for knowing of races going on in your area.

Ha. No, that other calendar I manage is better. (see: Trent)
Are you sure that the "New Hampshire Marathon" on Oct 2nd in the list is correct. I ask because the "New Hampshire Marathon" is a smaller event (about 300 finishers last year) and the same day as the "Machester (NH) City Marathon". Just strikes me as a hmmm that so many of the yellow shirt people would all be entered into the former (NH Marathon) while no one is entered into the larger Machester City Marathon on the same day.
mta: I have no idea why the little chipmonk currently powering my brain thought the Manchester City Marathon was also 10/2. It is obviously 11/7. I blame someone else.
Yes, I am sure that the New Hampshire Marathon (the one in Bristol) is correct. Folks are doubling it with a Maine race the next day, which is why lots of folks are going.
The Manchester Marathon is in November.
Dear Senor Lopez,
Never mind. Oh. That's a lot of maniacs in a small town.
