timing races (Read 98 times)

Myself and a running buddy time races (mostly 5k and 10k events) on the side for a little money and for our fun.  We get a kick out of working the finish line.  I'm curious to see if anybody else here does that.  If so, what equipment do you use?  What software? Do you charge for your services?  How much?  What timing method do you use (if not computerized)?  I don't normally hang out on the RA Forums but am an avid user of the mapping tool and the training log and always try to point people Eric's way if they want to know where I log my miles.  I'll stop back to look for replies.  Thanks!

I don't do it myself, but I help our running club. We use shoe chips, or sometimes the bib tags, but they are more expensive. Two timing mats with the ability to use 4. I think we use a program called Ipico Direct. They typically charge $150 plus .50 cents per runner. The entire race is loaded onto a flash drive as the primary backup. We also use a video system as another backup.
