Snowboarding! (Read 925 times)

I'm about a week and a half out from my boarding trip to Colorado. Should be nice cross training, while also being great fun Smile Anyone else board/ski?

I used to ski a ton before kiddos. Now, not so much. It was about the worst cross-training possible for running, but that obviously wasn't why I did it. Anyway, enjoy. I'm jealous. Where in Colorado?

Eldora, just outside of Boulder. It's a smaller resort but nice because there are no lines.

I 'board. Usually get up to Tahoe for 3 or 4 trips a year. I like Kirkwood resort as it is a bit away from the S. Lake Tahoe crowds and has some killer double blacks where there are never lift lines. I usually snowshoe in the morning and board in the afternoon. Unfortunately, no snow this year and the resorts aren't open yet. Never been to Colorado - lucky you! Have fun.

Eldora has been pretty bony this year... hopefully they got some good precip out of yesterday's storm and the winds will stay down so it all doesn't blow into Kansas. I'm hoping to get up into the Indian Peaks (surrounds Eldora) this weekend for some backcountry skiing... if I do, I'll let you know how the snow looks. Have a great trip! - Chris

Yeah, that would be great! Hopefully the weather cooperates...I've been looking forward to this trip for a long time now! Enjoy your trip and let me know how things are if you get the chance.
Well... we went to the northern Indian Peaks, about 20 miles north of Eldora yesterday. There was barely any snow up there... about 2-6" on the ground. We couldn't ski... just not enough snow. We carried skis up the mountain and then carried them back down :-) It was brutally windy too. I shot some video of the wind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xP78OCiWDk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mmrltq949I I think the southern end of the Indian Peaks did better though. We ran into a guy from Nederland, and he said they got more like 10-15" out of the last storm... so hopefully you'll find better conditions down there. Have a great trip! - Chris
I ski, tried boarding one day and spent most of the time on my bottom. Hurt my wrist too. Decided I'd stick with the skiing. We're going to try Telluride in February. Let us know how your trip goes! MTA: because I can't read and I'm an idiot Tongue

My wife and I are skiers. We are planning a trip out to Vail to do some skiing in February. DW's aunt lives in Red Cliff and her boyfriend works at Vail. He gets free tickets and cheap tickets. So we get 2 days of free skiing and the other days are $45.00 a ticket. And we stay with her aunt so it's a cheap vacation. Nothing compares to mountain skiing. I can hardly come back here and justify paying to ski the hills of Minnesota.

I live in the Colorado mountains, about 20 miles south of Eldora. Not sure how much snow they have right now, but we don't have a lot at home. We skied/boarded yesterday at Loveland, though, and it was awesome. They've been getting snow every day and the conditions are great. So even if you don't find good snow at Eldora, Loveland is pretty close. We're supposed to get 3-6" of snow tonight, so it will hopefully be good for your trip. Have fun!

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

Thanks for all of the updates everyone. I CAN'T WAIT for Sunday and it sounds like the conditions have been improving over the last week or so. Hopefully there is plenty of powder to have a good trip! Thanks again

Is that road in your profile pic near where you live? Man I really miss Colorado.

Sitting in Breckenridge (CO) watching the newest storm come in as we speak! Wink Smile 1'-2' will be nice, but prolly not the 40mph+ winds they're predicting!

                              De-slacking in progress

You'll NEVER catch me strapping a stick to my foot and then throwing myself down a mountain !! I have a hard enough time running in a straight line. I'd really like to try it as my brother and sister ski, but I'm too chicken. I guess I'm just really afraid of tearing my knee up and having it ruin my running.
