Bad Back anyone? (Read 694 times)

    On Tuesday at work I reached down from my chair to pickup some papers on the floor and hurt my back. By Wed morning I needed a cane to get around and didn't go to work. Didn't go to work this morning either but am a lettle better. Anyone know of exersizes that help? I figured the weight loss was the cure as since I DID shed the weight I had little or no back problems. Guess that was not all of it

      Oh, no, Gregg!!! Back injuries can be so many different things you aboslutely should NOT take any medical advice from a running forum about it. Go see a doc! Some specialists can even see you the same day if you just hurt your back! Get the on the phone and find someone who will see you. Meanwhile, generally speaking ice is better than heat for the first 24 hrs. Don't give yourself frostbite - put something between it and your skin and don't leave on for more than 20 minutes. Go take care of yourself. It's not worth being "tough" about back injuries!

            Well I came to work this morning. I figured my back problems left with my done-laps-disease. Seems I was mistaken. Better today but man does back pain effect everything else!!! I now know EVERY single chuck hole and bump from Columbus to Indy on I-65

              Sorry, man. Back pain sucks. And that's all the wisdom have for you. Except keep exercising, somehow. Keep sweating. And if your doctor tells you your running days over ... go find another doctor. A sports medicine specialist. Good luck!

                Gregg, Back pain sucks. Sad I think my back problems are finally gone! ::knock on wood:: I finally (after way, *way* too long) broke down and went to another doctor. This time I went to a D.O. who specializes in Sports Medicine and who is a runner himself. Smile He did a few manipulations, gave me some exercises to do at home and I walked out pain free. Big grin So far it's been a week+ and still no pain. Woohoo! My back and pelvis *feel* different to the touch now too. Apparently part of the problem had to do with my pelvis being twisted or something. One hip bone was higher than the other. The 2 previous chiro's I went to told me that was because one leg was longer than the other -- gotta have orthotics, big $$$. D.O. said nope. Look at this. Worked his magic and the pain is gone. Hips still the same. I can't believe how may *years* I wasted listening to those chiro's. Angry Find a good doctor. This one never even considered telling me not to run. Actually told me it was the best thing I could be doing for myself. I like that guy. Wink Teresa
                  Gregg: Back pain has been a constant for me for about 4yrs now. Running is not to blame, but rather my time in the saddle is (literally in the saddle). I train horse, I give riding lessons & I used to do ALOT of team roping. I had a horse that did some serious damage to my back & it hasn't been the same since. Teresa: I also see a fantastic DO that specializes in osteopathic manipulation. She is a miracle worker!! Same thing for me, some "twisted pelvis" issues, among other issues. She has never told me not to run or ride...she has told me that horse people & runners are the biggest pains in the ass because we: a) don't like to follow dr's orders, b) self diagnose, c) only come in when we think we're going to die or, God forbid, have to take a day off from running/riding! Big grin I have no clue what she is talking about though?? Confused I just saw my wonder-DO on Thurs, she manipulated me a bit & told me to run, run, run!! Cool Actually, she said it was pointless to tell me not to, so she might as well just say run, run, run! All I heard was, "get off that bench & get in the game, sister!" but people tell me I have selective hearing, so who knows... Tongue I hope you are doing better now, Gregg! I was feeling quite a bit better, but a good sneeze late this evening sent me to my knees in a fit of low back muscle spasms. I just figure that means I should run 5 miles tomorrow, since my back always feels better during my runs!

                    I spent yesterday bush hogging and while my back hurt some I felt much better. Who know bouncing around on a tractor could hlep. I plan on running a mile tomorrow, providing I can do the streches needed. I should be running at least 2 miles a day with my longs around 3.5 by now. I am going nuts not running!!!!!!!!!!!111

                      I ran a nice easy mile on Tuesday and felt great, but paid for it the next day. My back is slooooooooowly getting better and I have not run again. It is driving me nuts not to run but I figure let the back heal ALL THE WAY so I can run my schedule instead of run then pain andmissing 3 or 4 days justto do it over again.

                          What doc? I gotta go I know!!! And soon as it is tim for my check up on all the little things diabetes can do to me since the last check up. NTL than the end of the month. My back has never been good to me but I figured tossing out 75lbs did the trick. And I am getting old enough that I just don't heal fast then add the diabetes and it REALLY takes longer

                                *nods* You guys...my hubby just had to have a root canal because he hadn't been to the dentist since HS...he is 34 and it had been over 15 years since his last dentist visit. Take care of yourself and get that back better so that you can run without being in pain. k
