I took a spill about 4 weeks ago (tripped over litter-- in the street) and hurt myself really bad, huge bruises on both arms, scrapes, cuts, skinned knees, the whole buffet of injuries.Still in some pain, I went to an orthopedist today and am astonished to learn my left elbow is fractured. I thought I'd be given a cortisone shot maybe and a xeroxed sheet of exercises, instead I'm to come back in three weeks and see if it's healed OK (no cast) or if surgery will be needed. Just so pissed that something thrown out of a car because of pure slobbery could cause me so much pain and trouble. It was a rigid yellow plastic band that newspapers are bound up in. Apparently the carriers just throw them out the window when the band of papers is empty. If you step on an intact round one in the right (wrong) way this thing acts as a hobble or noose and down you go. Not the kind of running injury I ever expected to have....
I thought maybe I was the only one who has ever done this. Suddenly both legs are as if you're being calf roped. Fortunately for me, I was able to roll. I only sustained a mild abrasion on one hand and on the front of my leading leg and back of my trailing leg.
Surprised the heck out of a driver who pulled up to the intersection just as I fell (nearly in front of the car). After the initial shock, my incident was kinda funny. Kind of banana-peely. Your situation...not so funny.

i'm the queen of the running wipe outs in my neighborhood (in fact, my only real major injuries had to do with falling while running). Sooooo frustrating.
Oh roo roooo!
Fell over a pile of rocks during a trail run, split my lip and broke 2 teeth...yeah, it was great. My brother, who ran the race also and who is not good w/blood and so on, almost fainted when he saw me. Lesson learned from this? Make sure you have a straw in the glove box of the car so even if you broke your mouth, you can still drink a beer post -race.
