10 Rules for Running (Read 630 times)

    I'm making these up as I type.

    1. Have fun.

    2. Don't obsess over your clothes, food, or mile splits.

    3. It's OK to spit or fart.

    4. No one else cares how far or how fast you went.

    5. Please don't talk about cancer during a race.  I've never been to a race where I wasn't stuck by people chatting about cancer for at least half a mile.  Don't do that.

    6. Face traffic while you run, if you must run on roads.

    7. It will always be too hot, too cold, too wet, too dark, or too something.  Get over it.

    8. If you are run-walking, please check behind you and/or move to the side before you suddenly stop running.

    9. Get proper shoes.

    10. Have fun and relax.  It's just running.

      What the hey is shower beer anyway?

      ShockedShockedShocked  What?

      A very cold can in a very hot shower.

      Preferably with a friend.

      The tangents are moot.

        3. It's OK to spit or fart.

        I've been known to do both, however, the other social grace I lack when I run is the ability to avoid belching.  After a few miles (maybe three or four) I've been known to let out a series of staccato belches so loud I could hear the sound echoing off the trees around me.  Of course I run on a fairly deserted network of trails and the trees and woodland creatures don't mind, but I have let a few out and then come around a curve to see a few folks snickering to themselves after hearing my report.  All I can say is, "Howdy, nice day" as I motor on by.  Blush

          Hmmm, I always thought a beer shower was the running world's equivalentto the Champagne shower race car drivers get when they win a big race.

            It's all in the word order

            shower beer vs champagne shower

              1.  Long runs are to be rewarded with shower beer.

              Found this on CNN as titled:

              "A beer that works like a sports drink"

                In all my life, the thought of drinking a beer in the shower has never even crossed my mind.

                  What about in the bathtub?  That sounds more like my style.

                    Yeah, I've been know to practice the BBB recovery method after a good run.  BBB = Beer, Bath, Book.  Smile

                      So now the sasquatch sounds I hear in the morning make sense... Joking

                        1. Double knot your shoelaces

                        2. Don't eat a meal too close to your run time

                        3. Carry fluids if you are going long or if it's hot out

                        4. Don't pay for a race too far in advance if you can help it.

                        5. Injuries happen, recover fully before starting again and don't let them get you down.

                        6. Have a purpose for every run

                        7. Explore and go off-road to keep things fresh

                        8. Eat carbs with some protein within 30 minutes of finishing your run

                        9. Stretch after your finished

                        10. Don't make excuses

                          It's essential after a long day of skiing.

                          We are the music makers,

                              And we are the dreamers of dreams,

                          Wandering by lone sea-breakers,

                              And sitting by desolate streams;

                          World-losers and world-forsakers,

                              On whom the pale moon gleams:

                          Yet we are the movers and shakers

                              Of the world for ever, it seems.

                            1. Double knot your shoelaces

                            1)  rarely  re-knot my shoes after the first time

                            2) makes sense

                            3) I choose to run at cooler times rather than carry fluids

                            4) What's a race? Big grin

                            5) Thankfully no experience with that yet

                            6) Not necessarily

                            7) Agree

                            8) does water have protein?

                            9) rarely, guess I should.

                            10) yes

                            not bad for mile 25

                               What about in the bathtub?  That sounds more like my style.

                              Shower = beer

                              Bath = wine

                                Shower = beer

                                Bath = wine

                                That depends on the appearance of your tub and where on your property it's located.

                                There was a point in my life when I ran. Now, I just run.

                                We are always running for the thrill of it

                                Always pushing up the hill, searching for the thrill of it
