Entering Duration and Lap Data to a Workout (Read 665 times)

Dave Fulton

    Hi,

I created a new workout, but RA won't let me add my duration or the number of laps.  How do I enter this data into my workout record?

    Thank you for your help.

    Dave

Do you mean your splits detail? You can enter them in the Interval Data section of the workout page.

        Hi,

Sorry, for the late reply.  Internet access has been a problem.

I don't think that I'm trying for split times.  Forgive me for not being very adept, but I don't get fancy.  I just want to track my total miles and my average mile pace for each work out to track my progress.

I ran course that returns to it's starting point, but I ran it multiple times.  I was simply trying to record the number of laps (to get my total distance) and enter my duration to see my average mile pace.  That's all, but I can't figure out how to enter this data.  Any ideas?

I usually upload from my Garmin, and don't usually run multiple laps, but current circumstances dictate that I do it for now.

        Thank you for your help.

I'm not sure I understand, Dave.

All you need to enter is number of miles & total time, when entering a New Run Entry, to get your per mile pace for the workout.  The laps don't matter for that.

You can also get your per mile pace per lap if you hit the lap button on your Garmin as you complete each lap. That detail will be included in the Run Entry.

          Am I missing your meaning?

            Dave,

You can track either the per mile pace or per lap pace, but not both.  If you want to see the lap data, you'll need to disable auto-mile in your Forerunner and change it to manual lap.

              Sorry for not being clear.

I did not have my Garmin with me.  I was travelling on business, and could not bring it,

I was in a city that I was not familiar with, so I wanted to run in the neighborhood near my hotel.  So, what I did was map out a short circular route (began and ended at the hotel) , using the RA mapping tool, and I ran several laps of the route.

What I want to record is the total miles from all the laps, and the time that I took.

              Does that make more sense?

              Thanks.

              Dave

If I understand your question correctly, add the lap distance and times as intervals, and check the auto sum interval box. That will add up your lap distances and times on the workout.

It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

OK.  I'll give it a try.

Thank you everyone for your help.

No go.  It won't save the data.  When I go back into the workout record, the interval data is gone.

                      Sorry for not being clear.

Since you used the mapping tool you know the distance of each lap. What happens when you manually input the total miles and the total time in the Workout Detail section of the New Run Entry?

Did you remember to click the save button to the right of the interval data when you were entering it?  If this is not it, could you provide me with a list of steps of what you did?

OK, I got it to work!

The problem was the format I was using to enter my times.  The system is looking for H:MM:SS.TT, but I was entering it as H:MM:SS:TT.  I didn't notice that the seconds and tenths of seconds were separated by a decimal point (".") instead of a colon (":").  I guess using the wrong time format was causing the system to reject both the mileage and time because I was entering them together.

Thank you all for your help.
